General Mills was promoting Microsoft software on several of its food packages at one particular time. If I remember correctly, the promotion allowed a customer to send in proof of purchase information, or phone in and order the software. There were three different products a customer could order this way, and this interface is what the user always saw, as a customized front screen before installing the software. When I was brought on board to design the front screen, the CD-ROM deliverable packaging was already in development. The website was also close to being complete. These both had very different styles to them. The print materials used screened back photographic imagery, while the website had a fun, illustration type of style. My attempt to create a screen, merging these two styles, led me to borrow my buddy’s digital camera, set my own kitchen table, pour a bowl of cheerios, and consult my wife; A devout follower of Martha Stewart.
